Snow Peak GigaPower Stove

The second stove I purchased was in 1998, the Snow Peak GigaPower Stove, I purchases the stove only because my brother had runover my MSR Dragonfly stove and I needed a stove for a guiding trip.

And this Snow Peak stove has earned its place as one of my most trusted pieces of gear for a reason. As a professional outdoor educator, expedition guide, and backcountry chef, I rely on equipment that’s not only durable and efficient; but versatile across environments. The GigaPower checks every box.

Why It’s Ideal for Emergency Readiness & Hurricane Relief:

When power’s out and storms are raging, a lightweight, reliable isobutane stove becomes a lifeline. The GigaPower is compact enough to store in an emergency kit, quick to deploy, and offers immediate hot meals, coffee, and even the comfort of warm water. It boils water fast, simmers effectively, and handles wind surprisingly well with a simple windscreen.

In the picture below you will also see a burner pad that I purchased from Amazon.co.jp

Perfect for Florida Kayaking Expeditions:

Florida’s humid, salt-laden air demands corrosion-resistant gear. The GigaPower’s titanium components hold up to the rigors of Gulf-side expeditions. On multi-day kayak trips near Caladesi Island, to the Florida Keys, mangrove estuaries and spoil islands, this stove has helped me whip up:

  • Spicy Shrimp Ramen with Lime & Cilantro
  • Key Lime Pancakes with Coconut Syrup
  • Redfish Stir-Fry with Peppers & Plantains
  • Quick Black Beans & Rice with Mojo Sauce

Excellent for Backpacking:

Weighing just a few ounces and packing down tiny, this stove is a dream for ultralight hikers. Whether I’m guiding on the Florida Trail or leading youth through Ocala National Forest, it’s my go-to for:

  • Miso Udon with Tofu and Nori
  • Wasabi Tuna Rice Bowls (using StarKist Thai Chili Tuna)
  • Sweet Soy Noodles with Shiitake Mushrooms
  • Green Tea Pancakes with Honey

Why I Love Cooking on It:

Despite its minimal form, the GigaPower gives me control. I can flash-boil water for emergency sterilization or slowly simmer a delicate Japanese-inspired broth. It’s one of the few canister stoves I trust enough to do real cooking on.

Add a lightweight windscreen and pair it with the Trek 900 Titanium Cookset, and you’ve got a hurricane kit, kayak kitchen, and mountain-top cafe in your dry bag.

This is the kind of stove I use to teach practical cooking to Sea Scouts, Scouts BSA, and outdoor educators; because it’s built to last, easy to use, and ready for real meals in the wild.

Let me show you how to cook with it. Book a backcountry skills workshop or emergency readiness class with me, Jeff Fabiszewski, and let’s fire it up!
