On Saturday Sean and I participated in the Gulf Coast stand up paddleboard championship. We did not participate in the conventional sense. We teamed up with Russell of Sweetwater Kayaks to provide water support for the athletes.
This is the first type of event on our coast. And Brody Welte is responsible of this event. Brody owner of Stand Up Fitness came up with the idea of The GCSUPC after being inspired by some of the different races around the country. Each race seems to showcase the typical paddling conditions in the region in which it was held. The GCSUPC was no different. The race challenged and expose the racers to all of the varying water conditions that define the Gulf Coast of Florida. The racers experienced the rough Gulf as well as the smooth intracoastal, the down wind and up wind, and paddled with and against the tidal flow.
